Michelle McGregor

Michelle McGregor is the creator and lead performer of Tom Waits War Songs.

A devoted Waits/Brennan fan for over twenty years, she noticed a recurring thread running through their work: war. One day the thought struck her: someone should take every song Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan ever wrote about war and build a show around it. Having grown up as a theatre actor who was told she couldn't sing, she never imagined that someone would be her.

After falling in love with her now-husband and TWWS drummer Nick Liberatore, she went on to front multiple rock bands including LA-based garage rock band Solitary Friends, an AC/DC tribute band, and even an Ozzy/Rhoades tribute band.

Michelle holds an MFA in Acting from the Yale School of Drama. Theatre credits include Harold Pinter's Party Time, the West Coast stage premiere of Paddy Chayefsky's Network, and understudying Parker Posey in The Realistic Joneses at Yale Repertory Theatre. Tom Waits War Songs is the second show she and Nick have co-produced under the name Sweetbear, following Get Riffed, featuring Kevin Nealon, Mary Lynn Rajskub, and Joe DeRosa.
